Overfelt High School Adult Education Center

East Side Union High School District

When East Side Union High School District asked Aedis to design their new Adult Education Facility, we embarked on a task to create a physical environment that would enhance the learning experience for the adult students attending this program. We knew that, apart from the classrooms, a good deal of learning happens outside the classroom and is strengthened through dialogue and collaborative work with peers. Therefore, it was important to create outdoor informal spaces for learning that would not only feel very much like a collegiate campus, but also ignite interest in mathematics and science.

Serving over 7,500 students in East San Jose, this critical community resource helps many adults acquire English language skills, high school diplomas and employment skills. The new two-story facility includes 18 classrooms, two computer labs, student lounge and administrative offices. It is located on the same site as the relocatable classrooms it replaced that once housed the program.

“This new facility is a dream come true for many of us.  The community deserves this 21st century learning environment and they take full advantage of the services offered.”
